What is it with Delphi videos?

I guess I am not the only one who has noticed the trend to publish videos of various types instead of articles. There are interviews, tutorials and whatnot. I understand that it might seem to be the more modern form of publishing stuff, but it has some very annoying drawbacks:

  • It does not allow for indexing and searching the content
  • It forces you to watch the whole bloody thing to find out whether it contains any content that is worth your time rather than allowing you to quickly scan through the text
  • They consume quite a lot of bandwidth which makes it impossible to watch them on my smartphone.

In addition to these drawbacks to the – reader? consumer? – I assume they also require more time to create than a text article with some illustrations or pictures.

So, what do you think? Do you prefer videos over text? And if yes, why?
