In preparation to the end of support for Window 10 we are looking into replacing Windows on some older computers with Linux, in particular Kubuntu. We don't want to throw away perfectly good hardware just because Microsoft decided that Windows 11 should not support it. And we also don't want to pay Microsoft for extended … Continue reading RDP session using Remmina

GExperts: AI Rewrite and COBOL Port Announced for Immediate Development
(Just in case you didn't notice the publication date: This was an April Fools joke. I have had some experience with COBOL and I would never ever use it unless somebody pays me thousands of Euros per hour.) The venerable Delphi IDE extension GExperts is about to undergo a revolutionary transformation, with plans announced to … Continue reading GExperts: AI Rewrite and COBOL Port Announced for Immediate Development
GExperts now fixes yet another annoyance in the Delphi IDE: Desktops
With my particular monitor setup, the Desktop feature of the Delphi 11 and 12 IDE does not work correctly. The Startup Desktop is not restored as I saved it, on my high def monitor on the left hand side, but instead covers both monitors with huge window. I reported this problem to Embarcadero ages ago. … Continue reading GExperts now fixes yet another annoyance in the Delphi IDE: Desktops
Copilot annoyance
Today I turned on a laptop computer with Windows 10 Home, which I had not used for a long time. Of course it had to install quite a few Windows Updates, so I let it do this and came back later to restart it (rinse and repeat). After the second restart it showed a login … Continue reading Copilot annoyance
Added IDE Toolbar Expert to GExperts
Some Delphi IDE versions have an annoying bug with the toolbars that makes them unusable if you customize them. If you have seen this problem, you know it, if not, congratulations! Unfortunately I am one of the people who experience this problem and it annoyed me so much, that I added a workaround to GExperts. … Continue reading Added IDE Toolbar Expert to GExperts
Uses Clause Manager topic added to the GExperts help
They say that documentation is the worst part of programming and I mostly agree with that. Nevertheless I have taken the time to add a page about the Uses Clause Manager expert to the GExperts help because that topic was completely missing. I hope I covered all the topics. There is no help button on … Continue reading Uses Clause Manager topic added to the GExperts help
Destroying multiple ZFS snapshots
Note to self: Sometimes it is necessary to destroy not just a single but multiple ZFS snapshots. This can be done with some command line magic, but the zfs destroy subcommand has built in functionality too. Given a dataset pool1/dataset1 with 5 snapshots: snapshot1 snapshot2 snapshot3 snapshot4 snapshot5 [bash]zfs destroy pool1/dataset1@snapshot1,snapshot2,snapshot4[/bash] will destroy snapshot1, snapshot2 … Continue reading Destroying multiple ZFS snapshots
Updated Webhelp for GExperts available
Jim McKeeth has updated the GExperts documentation a bit. It's far from finished but that's better than the totally outdated one on gexperts.org. I have now exported it as webhelp and checked it in to subversion. You can read it at my newly created domain help.gexperts.de. (The domain is temporary only for now. I got … Continue reading Updated Webhelp for GExperts available
You should be using the full FastMM
If you are a Delphi developer and are not using the full FastMM memory manager (either the free version 4 or the commercial version 5) you really should try it. The limited FastMM version, that is included with Delphi since Delphi 2006, does not have the full debug mode. And that's the mode you should … Continue reading You should be using the full FastMM
